Areas of Practice
Estate Litigation
I represent Executors and holders of Powers of Attorney and can advise on the responsibilities of people who take on these onerous tasks. I also represent the beneficiaries of estates and those who think they should be beneficiaries when they question the actions of the Executor or the Power of Attorney. Sometimes the issue arises with respect to property held in joint names before the death of the testator and whether the property in joint names was actually meant to go to the estate. These are difficult situations that almost always involve family history and dynamics. Estate litigation can also involve the application of the Testator's Family Maintenance Act, which essentially allows a court to rewrite a will to achieve fairness.
Powers of Attorney Disputes
If you hold a power of attorney for someone you are subject to legal obligations. I can advise you on your responsibilities. If you are concerned that someone who holds a power of attorney for a family member is abusing their authority or using the power of attorney for their own benefit you have legal rights that a court will enforce.

Construction and Builders’ Liens
Building contracts often produce legal issues resulting in lawsuits or builder lien claims. Interpreting the terms of the contract between the parties requires legal analysis in order to define the rights and obligations of the parties to the agreement. I can advise you about your rights and responsibilities and represent you if necessary.
Commercial Disputes
Business deals, even though they seem clear at the outset, often become controversial when one party's expectations are not met. Advice when preparing commercial agreements helps prevent misunderstandings that can arise from ambiguity. If a dispute arises, understanding the legal meaning of the written agreement is essential to understanding your rights and obligations.
Municipal Law
Development agreements and municipal bylaws often bring citizens into conflict with their municipal government. Interpreting municipal bylaws requires an understanding of the law. If you are concerned about a development in your community, or if you are facing challenges obtaining approval for a development from your municipal government, I would be happy to consult with you.
